So i'm supposed to create an alternate ending for a spanish story that we read in class. You don't really need to know the story because I'm changing the ending please just check for any grammar errors or any suggestions. Also, I know a lot of the words have accents on them but i'm too lazy to type out all the accents

Oh I said eran las dos because our teacher wants us to use some imperfect verbs lol. Sorry about not putting accents. Oh, and I had no idea about the ellos thing, i'm currently in Spanish 2 honors, the highest freshman spanish course offered in my highschool, and I guess we haven't learned the ellos rule that you were talking about. Our teacher doesn't correct us when we use it either...

I am not a native speaker, but I corrected the verb forms and punctuation errors that I saw. I tried not to change your writing too much. Even though it is a bit of a pain, the accents are absolutely necessary, because you may end up with a completely different meaning if you leave them out, so I did made the words that needed an accent bold, as well as the verbs that I changed. I also removed the unnecessary pronouns. smile

Steve y Teresa se levantaron muy temprano y fueron al zócalo. Trabajaron rápidamente y encontraron una caja. Dentro de la caja, había un mapa. Usaron el mapa y encontraron una casa vieja. Cuando llegaron a la casa, eran los dos(?). Entraron a la casa y vieron un pecho. Steve abrió el pecho y salió un fantasma. El fantasma les custodió (I don't quite understand what you mean to say here but as the subject is el fantasma is has to be singular...he guarded them?). El fantasma dije que tenía hambre y quería un calavera de azúcar para el Dia de los Muertos. Teresa y Steve fueron al supermercado y compraron una calavera y luego regresaron a la casa. El fantasma estaba muy feliz y les dio el pecho. El pecho era de oro! Esa noche, Steve, Jose, Teresa, y toda la familia Martinez celebraron.

Teresa. . . levantaron . . "they "worked"quickly? do you mean they "walked" quickly? Día de Los Muertos. . . ¡"La caja" había sido de oro! you might want to use "caja" again as "pecho" generally means chest as part of the body.

ZachHsu, don't get me wrong, but you have too many mistakes. I could correct them all, but I don't see the point. I think you should go back to the basics, and get more input in the language before trying to create your own Spanish. I am still trying to learn other languages and I am aware of my limitations, but some people don't. It is not a good idea to try to practice a language you know very little about by trying to make up sentences based on your own language. Most sentences will be (actually, they are) incorrect, confusing, or ridiculous. You are missing some basics that I've taught to absolute beginners within the first four weeks, so I don't think you should be attempting to write such long paragraphs. I mean, you can if you want, but don't get discouraged if you get more than 70% wrong. Imagine someone who knows little about maths trying to mix mathematical symbols without having studied: the result will be a random collection of symbols.

But let me give you some important corrections you should know about: those "ellos" that you use all the time are extremely wrong. All of them! They are not optional -they are horrible mistakes! Remove them, and your text will improve considerably.

It may be more helpful to give an alternate to "ellos" -- were you thinking "les"? That is how a beginner would naturally compose a sentence, so instead of just saying how extremely "wrong" and "horrible" tell why, please! - NancyGrace, Jan 12, 2011
