Some times when I listen to native Spanish speakers the Rs are rolled in a very pronounced way. With other people it's more subtle. For the most part, is it a regional difference or a personal difference?

Both. It varies from place to place and person to person. T V and radio personalities have been known to really roll the R's for effect.

I agree with Kevin. It also depends on the moment, the circumstances and the effect that one pretends to achieve. Almost all natives can exaggerate the sound if needed. - lazarus1907, Jan 11, 2011
