La mayoría?

La mayoría?

I have a question about a sentence from an except about festivals In this sentence 'La mayoría tiene un origen religioso' is the 'La' referring to the fact that 'La fiesta' is feminine? If i were saying 'most of them' in spanish referring to something masculine for example 'los coches' how would it be said then?

Many thanks smile

As previously mentioned "La" is the article for "Mayoría."

In your sentence, what is being said is a shortened version for "La mayoría (de las fiestas) tiene un origen religioso."

Your other example: "La mayoría (de los coches) trabaja como taxi de sitio."

Keep in mind that prior context in needed to use these shortened structures.

Mayoría is a feminine noun. That's why it takes the feminine la.

"La mayoría" is a feminine noun meaning "majority" or, in this case, "the majority".

"mayoría" is a noun, and as such it has a gender. In this case feminine.
