Popup translator you can use anywhere

A note on the International Café thread from mapletw got me thinking:

As I've browsed around the Internet today, studying Spanish a bit here and there, I've found myself double clicking on words on websites to see their English/Spanish counterparts...only to realize that not all sites work like SpanishDict. Sigh, if only every website could be as helpful!

Has this ever happened to you?

I also noticed this, and found a solution.

In using Firefox for SD, I added the "Fast Translation" Add-on. I can highlight a word or longer selection, right-click, pick the "Translate" command on the popup menu, and get a small popup translation window. It's not exactly like the popup translator on SD, but it works on all websites (as long as you use Firefox browser), and it works on full sentences and paragraphs. It also works in many languages!

You can install it by selecting from your Firefox menu: Tools / Add-ons

Then click "Get Add-ons" at the top, and do a search for "Fast Translation" and follow the simple install steps. That's just a click or two more.

You can read about this Add-on here if you would like more info before considering this. I've been using it for a couple of months without problems.

Better to improve the translation program in your memory than the one stored in the computer's memory. - 0074b507, Jan 11, 2011
I can't disagree with that point, but a popup translator acts very much like a dictionary. It lets you use any Spanish text just like a Flashcards exercise. It has helped me learn. - pesta, Jan 11, 2011
It's also better for your brain to get the meanings of the words as quickly as possible, like how instant correction works better than being corrected a week later. - rabbitwho, Mar 21, 2011

I just wanted to bump this because I just started using another one of these: https://addons.mozilla.org/es-ES/firefox/addon/google-dictionary-and-google-t/

And it's fantastic, you can double click on individual words to translate them or highlight whole sentences, it is as fast as your internet connection and so so awesome. It makes reading El Principito really easy! http://www.odaha.com/antoine-de-saint-exupery/maly-princ/el-principito

And maybe eventually I'll be ready for Cien años de soledad http://www.literatura.us/garciamarquez/soledad1.html ... A girl can dream!

That would be way beyond my vapabilities. - It was tough enough in English, but a great read. - ian-hill, Mar 21, 2011

I was wondering if there was an add-on like this but hadn't bothered to do the research yet. Thanks pesta! I'll be adding it as soon as I post this!
