Using tildes and accent marks
For an 'english' computer, what is the best way to program the keyboard to do an accent mark or a tilde while writing in Spanish.
For example, if I'm writing a paper in word document, and need to use an accent mark quickly without having to click a lot of buttons to get the special character every time, could you program it to do an accent when you push "shift + ` ", or is there a better method?
Thanks

I'd like to promote the use of Spanishdict as a technical guide as well, so check this link: http://www.spanishdict.com/answers/100808/how-to-type-spanish-letters-

this is an old way to do it. ALT+ #### gives you specific characters
also if you would open your "Character Map" from the start menu and highlight a letter, the ALT code is in the bottom right hand corner.
have fun SY
Yes, you can. I was able to do it on my PC in Microsoft Word. I'm using a Mac now, but as I recall, if you go to Tools, then Insert symbol, it will give you a huge list of symbols, choose your desired one such as é,í,ú, or ó, etc, and then you can set that "symbol" to a hotkey such as CTRL e or CTRL o, etc. It was very helpful for Spanish papers.
For a Mac, it's much easier, whenever I want to type in Spanish I simply toggle between Spanish and English. This can be done by going to System Preferences, then Language and Text, then select your two desired countries, USA then Spain.
