Because she is a Southern Belle. Enunciation is not high on your list of prioriites when surrounded by Nature's beauty. You just witness it in awe, try to show gratitude, and everything else fades in importance.

In other words, why would you ask such a question? She did it to intentionally mislead you. Why else?

[I find it interesting that 3 of us answered giving the same excuse....because she is from the South. Telling isn't it! Proud to be a cracker! (but I consider myself a Texan cracker. We're a few steps up from the rest of those rednecks!)]

I'm originally from Michigan, but lived in Mississippi for a year, then South Carolina for 5 years. I learned that you call your elders Ma'am and Sir, you chunk a football, and grits are actually edible if you add enough butter and salt. - KevinB, Jan 9, 2011

That's a very common pronunciation in the U S, especially the southeast. It's a regionalism.

She is from the USA. I don't think she pronounces it wrong. That's the way it should be done, then. smile

It's regional, but not uncommon. The T is not enunciated very strongly in many parts of the U S. - KevinB, Jan 9, 2011
well I hadn't thought about that. :) - culé, Jan 9, 2011
