¿Cómo estás? Estoy bien. ¿Oh sí? Yo también lo estoy.

Yo también is short for this right? It means, Me too, but I wonder if there is some explanation for the lo?

"Yo" is used because there is a contrast between two or more people: "you feel one way" and "I feel one way".

That "lo", if you want to know the grammatical term, is called "pronombre de atributo", and it is quite different from the direct object, because it doesn't agree with anything -it is always "lo", even in plural. This "atributo" only happens with "ser", "estar", "parecer", and sometimes "resultar":

Parece bonito -> Lo parece

Parece bonita -> Lo parece

Parecen bonitos -> Lo parecen

Parecen bonitas -> Lo parecen

Estoy bien -> Lo estoy

Estamos bien -> Lo estamos

From my understanding, you say "lo" because you are referring to an "it" in the just previous sentence to yours.

In English it would be best translated, "What you just said is how I feel too".

(loose translation of course....I'm not trying to translate precisely but translate by meaning.)

That must be the same logic as :

" Es muy arrogante ¿verdad? " - "Pues no, no lo es."

Actually if it's used like that, then it refers to the previous adjective..
