"Por el estilo"

So "por el estilo" basically means the same as "así" verdad? Algo por el estilo = algo así = algo parecido = algo como eso. And "No me gusta cuando me tocas por el estilo" or "Me gusta cantar por el estilo" make sense too? Gracias.

´No me gusta cuando me tocas por el estilo" does not make sense to me.

"Me gusta cantar por el estilo" means I like to sing because of the style (because I like that style).

but ¨algo por el estilo¨ is more like a fixed expression meaning algo así, so you have to rely on context to know when those words might mean something different.

examples:

Me gusta el rock, el blues o algo por el estilo. (or something like that)

Me gusta Milla Jovovich por el estilo (for her style)

Ok, so the expression, is "algo por el estilo" and without algo, it's not an expression and just means "for they style" or maybe like "por el estilo francesa" for like, french style soup or maybe that would be al estilo. "Sopa al estilo francesa o algo por el estilo" that makes sense right? Gracias.

yes but It´s more common to say sopa a la francesa, pulpo a la vasca. Or sopa al estilo francés o algo por el estilo/ o algo así/ o algo de eso. - mediterrunio, Jan 7, 2011
