Esto dolerá

This show just used this phrase for "this is gonna hurt", seems wierd, I usually think of hacer daño or lastimar to cause pain, even emotional, but I guess since doler is to feel pain this would work? Seems a bit odd to me.

Doler does mean to hurt. Me duele el estómago, me duele la cabeza. Esto dolerá sounds right to me.

Well yeah it does but I would think it seems better in Spanish to say "this is gonna Cause you to be hurt" or "this is gonna cause you pain" that's why I think it sounds a bit odd. But I guess I just haveb't heard it this way. - jeezzle, Jan 6, 2011
There is no reason to assume the "you". If the show were showing (physical) bloopers, the persons in the scenes would be the ones being hurt. - 0074b507, Jan 7, 2011

This is probably something being said about pain about to happen at the moment, so it would be more natural to say "Esto te va a doler."
