Wow spanish is hard and easy at the same time :?

It is easy because the spelling is logical, the pronunciation is relatively simple (compared to many other languages I can tell you about), there are many thousands of words that are nearly identical to English, and other features.

It is hard to learn it when the "rules" you try to follow are too long and complex to be used in real time, and when they have so many exceptions, that you end up more confused than without them.

I wonder if you have read any of what Krashen has said on Language acquisition and conscious language learning as it relates to following "rules" in real time. If not, you might find it interesting. - Izanoni1, Jan 3, 2011

Lazarus, I think you are correct. I have been working on Subjunctive Contrary to Fact statements today and my hair hurts. However, I'm about to put my language to real use (a month in Costa Rica) where I will speak in real time and see what reality is - Echoline, Jan 3, 2011

That's why we are all here. Yes, it's hard, but we enjoy the challange and we also know that when we all help each other the load gets lighter and we have alot more fun carrying it. Language is hard because language is complicated. Language is complicated because people and their lives are complicated.

So, on balance, it's a good thing. Language being hard proves that life can be very, very interesting.

It's easy because it is a language that developed between people trying to communicate things similar to what you try to communicate in your native language. It is hard because you learned a different way first.
