Favorita o favorito?

Favorita o favorito?

In the sentence

"Soup is my favorite food."

it should translate "La sopa es mi comida favorita".

In this case, is "favorita" used based on the gender of "la sopa" or "mi" (my gender)?

If I say "Eggs are my favorite food."

would it translate

"Los huevos son mi comida favorito."?

In other words, does the gender of "mi" (my gender) determine the selection of "favorita" or "favorito"?

Also, is the use of "ser" correct in these sentences?

Hi dogwood, yes, the verb ser is correct here.

The adjective agrees in gender and number with the noun it defines/describes etc.

so in this case it would be comida, feminine

"Los huevos son mi comida favorita."?

Thank you. I made a mistake in class yesterday using "favorita" to describe a verse in the Bible. One of the other students corrected me. Now I know why. - 0066c384, Jan 3, 2011

It is not based on the gender of la sopa or your gender, but the gender of comida. No matter what food you list, it will always be feminine to match comida.

Thank you, jezzle. I'm getting confused a lot now, particularly in conversation. - 0066c384, Jan 3, 2011
Gracias. ;) - jeezzle, Jan 3, 2011
Let yourself be confused and move forward. Don't be "stumped" just keep talking. I still get confused and I bet even Kevin and Marianne do once in a while. - jeezzle, Jan 3, 2011
