'Stepping up to the plate'

What is the Spanish equivalent of 'stepping up to the plate'? The translator is useless for this as it gives me a literal translation, while I mean to say it in a figurative manner, as in: 'life is all about stepping up to the plate'.

Thanks!!

So many ways to say it - also 'hacerle frente' 'dar cara' "asumir el reto'

No, this is a good example of how literal translations don't carry the same meaning, or in this case, any meaning at all. - n8er8er, Jan 3, 2011
