The slang in Spain stays mainly in the drain

I moved to Spain a few months ago and have been picking up on things quickly. However I do often have question that would violate the rules of the forum as even in my office, being very vulgar is often a part of life. While I do learn quite a bit of drunken Spanish in bars that can actually stay with me afterward, I was wondering if anyone could recommend a place with a good listing of Spanish (preferably with the regional variations) slang for real life? I´m finding myself lacking on many of the more risqué phrases that can come in very handy in the many compromising situations I end up in.

I am aware the dictionary is fairly good about translating phrases I encounter, but expressions and idioms would also be useful to me. Perhaps there could be a NSFW section of SD as these things can be VERY useful in immersion learning and are a reality of living in another language.

I don't know, but I'll keep an eye on this question. Not that I would use one of these phrases, of course, but you have to know them in order to avoid using them, right? - KevinB, Jan 3, 2011
Yeah, and there should be passwords given to access such SD sections but only to those who have come of age :D - bomberapolaca, Jan 3, 2011

All I can recommend is the following:

http://pelangoche.blogspot.com/

http://www.urbandictionary.com

http://swearindf.blogspot.com/

http://www.mexicoguru.com/mexican-slang.php

Most of them deal with Mexican Spanish.

To catch a glimpse of Spanish slang (from Spain and Latin America), I would suggest:

Hi lupin, for this kind of thing. go to WR, there is no other way than sent you there, jeje, I said on another thread that no way sending people there, but there is no other way.

Actually, just type into their dictionary any expression you wish, like the very rude:

jo...vivo

This will lead you right to threads (in this case only one) where this topic was discussed. You can also ask any kind of questions, even of extreme contentwink

How about this:

www.spanish.about.com/.../idiomsandphrases/Idioms_and_Phrases.htm

It has a whole list of situations and phrases.

Or try maybe:

www.languagerealm.com/spanish/spanishidioms.php

Or for some amusing Spanish expressions:

www.study-spanish-language.com/spanish-lesson-idioms.htm

Or even go onto the 'Phrasebook' under the more link on the menu, to see a whole host of expressions submitted by users.

Thanks, but I´m looking for a bit less "family friendly" phrases. As I acclimate to my office, I´m finding my biggest challenge to be things that I´d use urbandictionary for in English, as my workplace is more vulgar that most bars. - lupinechemist, Jan 3, 2011
You're going to the wrong bars. - lorenzo9, Jan 3, 2011

Where do you work? ? You could PM some folks on the site and ask if they are willing to give their insight.
