Why is it me gusta and not yo gusta?

For the same reason that you say "The game bores me" and not "I bore the game": because in Spanish we don't say "I like something", but "Something 'pleases' me".

To put it simply, gustar is "to please" so "it pleases me" not "it pleases I"

Jim, please let other people give answers before accepting the first one to come along. There will most likely be better ones. - Yeser007, Jan 2, 2011
