Las tallas de las estelas?
I was a reading a book in Spanish and I came across this passage: Me econtré con una foto de las tallas de las estalas." I'm really not sure what las tallas de las estalas is supposed to mean here. The subject of this passage is concerning pictures of hieroglyphs if that helps anyone. The translator gave me "carved stelea" which doesn't make sense.

I believe it is referring to the carved hieroglyphs themselves. "Tallas" would refer to the carvings on the surface of the hieroglyphs. (Aren't hieroglyphs sometimes referred to as "stellae" or something similar to that?)
A google search os "tallas de las estelas" will give you a more precise definition.
