From reading comments today on YouTube, I learned that "Thumbs up" on videos was "manita arriba". I figure it's "manita" because it's a little button you're clicking. Would you just say "mano arriba" for "thumbs up" in general or would someone say "pulgar arriba"?

I wonder why people use manita arriba and not pulgarito arriba.
It just may be what they call the avatar for a "thumbs up" since it depicts an entire hand.

En Español es común "la calificó como buena" . Lo de "pulgares arriba" se escucha cada vez más, pero es una traducción lisa y llana del inglés, no surge naturalmente del Español :) Los ejemplos de Q son perfectos! - Benz, Jan 1, 2011

I think 'manita' is slang in some places for 'mano'. And we all know that hands up is the new thumbs up
