for informal, I know using tu commands means using the third person singular. what if you are talking to a group of people ? Do you have to use the informal vosotros if you dont want to use the formal ustedes? does it matter in a casual setting?

so if I want to say "listen to this song" or "listen to it" which of the following should i say?

1) escuchad a esta cancion/ lo escuchad/ escuchadlo - vosotros

2) escuchen a esta cancion/ lo escuchen/ escuchenlo - ustedes

In countries where Vosotros is used, then yes, it is used with an informal group of people. Where it is not used, Ustedes is used for both formal and informal.

1) Escuchad esta canción / escuchadla - vosotros (imperative)

2) Escuchen esta canción / escúchenla - ustedes (imperative)

Why is the accent there on escuchadla.? (the accent is on the last syllable (chad) before adding the pronoun which keeps it there). - 0074b507, Dec 31, 2010

why do you use la at the end of the command and not lo? - doowahdiddy, Jan 1, 2011
"La" is the pronoun for "Canción" which is feminine - 005faa61, Jan 2, 2011
