What forms of Spanish am I thinking of?

I am trying to figure out which two forms of Spanish I am thinking of.

1.) This form is when something is something, but only for a certain amount of time.

2.) This form is when something is something, and forever will be that thing.

Do you guys know which forms I might be thinking of? Thank you! smile

I'm new to Spanish, so I could be very wrong... but from what I understand, the first one is simple past tense and the second is imperfect tense?

This sounds like you're thinking of ser and estar, although the rules you've listed are not entirely correct. I hope this at least helps you remember the words.
