Mine is a Venezuelan colloquialism that makes perfect sense there, but contains what could be interpreted as a rude word elsewhere. In English it means, "Love from afar is the love of fools." "Amor de lejos es amor de pend****". It rhymes in Spanish.

I didn't think that pendejo was a bad word. I use it all the time. - Bob-Dressler2, Dec 30, 2010
It isn't a *really* bad word, but it is despective. It means anything from 'pussy' (coward) to dummy, etc.. - bill1111, Dec 30, 2010
¡Deja la pendejada, chico! ¡ Escríbelo como es! ;-) - Gekkosan, Dec 30, 2010
REally? All this time I thought it was the word for "umpire", since I hear it all the time at baseball games!! je je je - mountaingirl123, Dec 30, 2010
We used it as a synonym for "fool". I understand it's a bit more descriptive elsewhere. - KevinB, Dec 30, 2010

Tengo que elogiar a una catedrática ya fallecida que al recibir de mí Bachillerato en Español, me presentó un plato plateado en el cual estaba inscrito lo siguiente, " Salud, Amor y Pesetas y El Tiempo para Disfrutarlos" Aún tengo en un sitio de honor, este plato en mí casa.

I have to give praise to a professor now deceased, who, upon my recieving a Bachelor's degree in Spanish, gave me a silver plate upon which was inscribed the following, "Health, Love, and Money, and Time to Enjoy Them!" I still have that plate in a place of honor in my house.

This old Irish woman instilled in me the love of this beautiful language, some thirty-seven years ago! Athough it means nothing to anybody, her name was Professor Margaret Adams!
