Please, Heidi could we have a section for new members with guidance/advice about:

1 Logging in

2 How to post a question properly, i.e. using correct language ... not text talk!

3 How long, realistically, it could take them to learn Spanish to an advanced level/fluently ; i.e. years rather than days! lol (I have recently been getting so tired of the unrealistic questions asking can I learn Spanish in 10/25 days lol)

I am sure that other people could come up with some other good ideas to add to the list. Perhaps it could be added to a FAQ section that Gekko recommended under:

"Which threads or topics should be added on "Learning Resources?" , Please post your ideas and thoughts!"

What does anyone else think?

As I said before, the forum rules need to be made into a "sticky" that everyone sees first.

Sure they need to be made available but I am talking about guidance as well as rules eg: number 3 - FELIZ77, Dec 29, 2010
They don't need to be made available, they need to be so obvious you can't miss them. - lorenzo9, Dec 29, 2010
I think a laser that imprints the image of the rules on your retina as you look at the screen while logging in will work - nizhoni1, Dec 29, 2010
and so? do you think a sticky would be read? well, think again , lorenzo, people only read the rules once they get a letter, hey, please read the rules you are breaching them! - 00494d19, Dec 29, 2010

When signing up as a new member, before completing the process, the new member is taken to the rules page. A small tick box at the end of the Rules/How to page, must be checked off before a new membership is granted. Upon checking the tick box indicating understanding and acceptance of the rules, the membership process would be complete.

At least it would assure that all new members would read the rules at least once. Also, claiming ignorance of the rules would not be valid under these circumstances.

Just a thought.

This could be incorporated into a separate section of the new phrase book (la guia) that now exists at Spanish Dict - FELIZ77, Dec 29, 2010
There are dictionaries online that do that. . . - lorenzo9, Dec 29, 2010
Yes, and please make a search before. - cogumela, Dec 29, 2010

Not really, Joe.

do you actually read the terms and services you agree with, you have to tick a box, when you download for example skype, or any other programme?

To tick a box is useful for legal matters, but not really practical.

Our rules are right on top of the screen where it says "Welcome to answers", perfectly visible and clear. Fact is, on other forums, when you register, you have to tick the box . but that does not mean you have read the rules at all!

And no, Feliz, we cannot have a section for newbies, they have the same right to ask questions silly or not as oldieswink

Lots of oldies have never read the rules, and some of them do not agree with them and breach them, just like the newbies.

I wish everybody would just ask intelligent and interesting questions, but who decides what is interesting? The oldies?

this thread is closed, Feliz, if you have a question for an administrator, please write a PM, this is not open for public discussion as I have often mentioned, but I am doing so again, and to an "oldy" who should know betterwink
