Can anyone tell me what straight across means, and can you give some examples? Thank you.

How do people utilize this word? Thank you.

It is also used to mean things of equal value. "We traded straight across, his bike for my stereo."

I never heard of that. I think you mean Even-Steven. :) - Sabor, Dec 29, 2010
Even-steven is a coined phrase, meaning someone made it up to make a point. It can mean any way of coming out even. Straight across is used just for a trade. - Leatha, Dec 29, 2010
Bob forgot his wallet but his friend paid for his ticket so Bob came out even-steven. - Leatha, Dec 29, 2010

It means in a straight line from one edge to another.

From the bank, go straight across the street to the bookstore. Draw a line straight across the top of the paper. The mouse ran straight across my foot. That boy walks straight across my yard every day.

straight across means directly in front of.

The bank is straight across the street from the book store.
