Diminutive suffixes have pretty much the same meaning in Spanish as in English.
In Spanish they are -ito, -ita, -ico, -ica, -illo, -illa and probably some more?
So chiquita is to chica as doggy is to dog, though I might not have use the best word for comparison ![]()
As an aside, diminutising words is very common in Colombia, you hear it all the time. I understand that it is not so common in all Spanish speaking countries.

"Chiquita" is the diminutive of "Chica". and chica means girl. In spanish, the word chiquita could have a double meaning, depending who you are referring to: 1) You say "Chiquita" only to those very close to you, since it implies some affection and confidence, like your sister or niece, of those who are younger than you or possibly shorter than you. 2) "Chiquita" is also used to enounce physical attraction, by saying "hola chiquita" to an stranger, or somebody you are coming accross the street, you are expressing attraction or physical admiration. You will also find "chiquitita", which is used to express a superlative admiration or greater attraction(i,e: Mira que guapa mujer!! chiquitita!!). Pay attention to the sound of the word to identify what of the two meanings describe above is implied in it.
