What tense do you use for ‘I will be doing something” in Spanish? Like if you wanted to say, “I will be traveling,” how would you say it? (NOT “I will travel”, which is just the future tense…I think).

Another common way to say this particular phrase is "Estaré de viaje ..........." but this form doesn´t work in all situations.

I will be traveling... Estaré viajando.... Voy a estar viajando... also, Voy a viajar...

You dont always need to directly translate the gerund (-ing words) into Spanish, as they are more frequently used in English than in Spanish

The 'traveling' in "I will be traveling" is NoT a "gerund". It is a participle used as an adjective. - samdie, Dec 27, 2010
It is a gerund, as the participle is 'viajado' - AngelinaG, Dec 27, 2010
Aslo, it is a gerund in English-->http://www.myenglishteacher.net/gerunds.html - AngelinaG, Dec 27, 2010
Furthermore, here is an explination of the future perfect progressive form, if it interests you: http://www.myenglishteacher.net/future_perfect_and_future_perf_progressive.html - AngelinaG, Dec 27, 2010

Estaré + Gerundio I think. I will be + present participle.

Here is a link where I asked a similar question a few months ago.

link text

I was surprised to see the response. "Estaré + gerund" seems logical to me. But for the question I posed, the response was "Voy a + infinitive".

I've noticed Spanish speaking people reading in public. They will begin the reading by introducing "Vamos a leer". I asked our Hispanic minister, and he agreed with the response.

I've used both responses to introduce public readings. To me, they both sound acceptible. I believe the response I received was for a more formal setting.

I hope that helps!

Please see the reply from Dakie for the correct terminology or consult your English dictionary for the meaning of "gerund". - samdie, Dec 27, 2010

"Estaré de viaje ..........."

Julian's suggestion is a very good one. It does not mean (simply) "I will travel" and if by that you mean you will reject any use of the simple future, you are arbitrarily restricting the range of possible answers (including some perfectly good ones).

You need to decide (before asking your question) on whether you seek good translations or only those that satisfy some artificial constraints (which may, in fact, preclude the best translations).

I think "will be" as a simple future plus gerund means "estaré, estarás, estará, estaremos. estarán" viajando, haciendo, comiendo, etc. an excellent question,I am looking forward to see other responses.

estar is only one verb of motion used with the gerundio. andar viajando could possible mean "bumming around" (vagabundo) - 0074b507, Dec 27, 2010
"gerundio" - fine. "gerund" - wrong. - samdie, Dec 27, 2010
