Hi there, there are other verbs in Spanish that can take the gerund. "Ir" is one of them, as well as "andar," "continuar," "seguir," and "venir."

In the sentence you provided, I don't really know the context, but "your thoughts are carrying you away" would work. "Ir" usually indicates slowly or steadily when combined with a gerund.

I found these sites as well!

"present participle" (or "geundio") but not "gerund" ("gerund" is a verbal noun"). - samdie, Dec 23, 2010

It is very similar to English, in that verbs of motion can be used with the present participle to form the progressive tense in a manner similar to the usual "to be".

He is walking down the path
He goes walking down the path
He comes walking down the path

Spanish likes to subsitute other verbs for "to be" in other circumstances as well.
