How do you say "I was" in Spanish? As in, "When I was a child....etc." Thank you very much.

Cuándo era pequeño. when I was a young child. so you use ser i.e. Era. Another example: Estuve viendo la tele. I was watching the television. Here yo use estar i.e. estuve.
