How can a father be plural as in "padres"?

Meaning in the biological and not the religious sense. Specifically I see the term "mi padres" What am I missing?

It should be "mis padres" which means my parents. - Cindysma, Dec 20, 2010

Padres means parents and "my parents" is "mis padres."
