Can we ban this type of post?

I really do think that people should be recognized for their accomplishments on this website like how much reputation someone has earned. 10K 20K etc. But some people just go through the users just trying to find people who have earned 10K so that they can post about it and gain reputation...It's kind of lame. :D.

I thought that those congratulatory threads were a stupid waste of time until I earned 10,000 points. Then, I was really touched by everyone's encouragement. I actually got all choked up about all of the nice things people said to me. I appreciate the encouragement.

I disagree. If those users didn't post the 10K threads then no one would. So they are drama types who probably update their facebook pages all day. So what. Our policy is to have 10K 25K 50K etc... accomplishments noted. I appreciated mine and everyone deserves to be recognized regardless of who is doing the recognizing. I for one hate drama and the idea of searching through for user close to 10K is silly but hey, if someone is taking the time to do that then why should I care? Why should anyone?

I see your point...maybe we could make a limit for how many one user can put per day :P - Debiera, Dec 19, 2010
Oh debs, are we going to limit the number of smiles per day , or compliments , or well wishes , noooo, May You Be Well And Happy. - ray76, Dec 19, 2010
Reputation points are already limited to 200 per day, so if you really are worried about points you can be sure to earn 200 daily, my advice would be not to worry about rep points and just have fun. : ) - EL_MAG0, Dec 19, 2010

Just today I posted one of those narcissistic threads to encourage a friend-user who works very hard to learn a second and third language.

I did not know someone would be upset with that kind of post. But I think you have tools to ask for moderator´s attention when you see someone posting something wrong or unappropiate. I think you should feel free to use them and help to improve this site.

wink

I agree with Jeezle ,if there were not people who were willing to devote time and

energy to search out who is in need of a pat on the back ,be it for 10K, 25 K or 50 K

or a birthday , or sickness ,whatever! These are the people who keep the wheels

turning in life ,"the doers", as opposed to those who are "the takers" ,we all of us

mesh in well ,and compliment each other ,especialy on SD we are like a big family

which relies on the the many mother figures to attend to our needs.

Praise be to them ,I say, blessed are the givers for they shall inherit the earth ,

I may have that wrong, but you know what I mean ,good on them ,thank them

for their dilligence and ambition .

grin wink cool smile

I suppose that if you don't like them and think they are silly, you can just ignore them. Most of the posts on the forum I don't comment on for a multitude of reasons: It's too advanced for me, I have no interest in it, I don't feel I have anything to contribute that is interesting or useful, etc. Most of the people here probably like the "party" threads, even the Happy Birthday ones. But if you don't like them, allow others to enjoy them, and just move on.

It is just a way of enjoying everything that is in life ,if you feel the need to jump up and down ,then do so, but do it with a smile and a happy comment to someone, anyone! - ray76, Dec 19, 2010

I agree with all of the above statements. Are we a part of this community for reputation, to learn spanish or english, to help those who are learning or are we here for point gain and reputation. Myself, I am not wrapped up in a popularity contest. If I were I don't think it would bother me if my friends were voted on anyway. The questions I don't understand, I skip over. Acknowledging somebody for their accomplishments is very cool. I'm not gonna worry about who initiated the well done and I'm not gonna vote to ban this type of post either. I enjoy reading the words congratulations y felicidades as I look thru the questions. That is part of this coool site. Otra vez, gracias a spanishdict y mis amigos.

Well, are those reputation points important?? I never noticed much of it.I come here only to study Spanish. Well, try to think ,what can you do with all the scores? Can you buy a house? This is just a study community. To help and ask for help. Just study and have fun!

drama queen Pictures, Images and Photos

Wow! I have only just read this thread. I do the congratulatory threads for two reasons, to make someone else feel happy and to have fun myself. I really am not the dramatic type as someone suggested and as for gaining points, I would have to say that is not much of a reason to do a thread. I would guess that a lot of the time I would already have the max. points for the day as I often do the thread late at night. The general consensus seems to be in favor of the threads and so Debs, pardon me but you will simply have to look the other way. I think it is kind of lame for you to be concerned about it. I like to have a little fun while I learn.

I like them. Like Joyce said, I didn't think much about them until I hit 10K and my name was mentioned. I was touched. I don't think they're self-serving at all. I think of them as sort of a mutual pat on the back. It takes a lot of work to answer all these questions, and a lot of the questions aren't really all that interesting to answer, but the members still do it. They deserve an occasional pat on the back.

Imagine, DebstheMod, if we had such celebratory threads every time someone reached another 5K. We had them at 5, 10, 15, 20, etc. It was only recently that we changed it to the current policy.

Much time, thought, and discussion has been spent over deciding whether or not we should have these threads and if so, how often. A consensus was developed for the current rules, with the vast majority of us agreeing that it was just about right.

Given that, I think the posts will stay as they are unless there is an extreme change of heart. For most of us that's not a bad thing. If it is for you, then maybe just please overlook it.

We are here for a reason.. to learn something more and add it to our knowledge.
Most of the users study hard to accomplish just that.
So.. let a smile lighten up your day. It doesn't cost anything and make you feel gooood!!
I agree with all the above posts.. nothing more nothing less,,
