Why I haven't been posting much lately

My web browser crashes when I type text, more than a few words. Every browser. I have no virus, done every check. Every browser crashes. Done everything I can think of. After I type this my computer will crash and reboot, which takes 10 minutes after I click answer. It may or may not post it before it reboots. Very frustrating, I guess I need a new computer. So that's why I haven't been posting as much. Every once in a while I can get a few posts in, but I'm working on it. I just need 200 dollars to upgrade and fix it, but I just fixed my car and I'm pretty poor right now. I do hope everyone is doing well lately.

Good to see you back! I haven't been on much lately either, so when I logged on tonight, I thought nothing of seeing your posts. Bummer about your car. - mountaingirl123, Dec 19, 2010

Unless you have a hardware problem I would just reformat the hard drive and reinstall the operating system and applications. It will be like the day you bought it, for no charge. Just make sure you back up all your personal files first.

Another option is to install Ubuntu Linux. I love it. It's a great OS, comes with pretty much every application you need, and it's all free. Plus it's much, much faster and more secure than Windows.

Don't let Bill Gates read this!!! hehehe , I agree Kevin :) - culé, Dec 19, 2010
Actually, Windows 7 is a huge improvement over Windows XP. I have computers running XP, 7, Ubuntu, and Max OSX. 7 is my current favorite, but it's running on a brand new machine, which helps. - KevinB, Dec 19, 2010
Don't be afraid, he won't do anything... :P jejeYes I'm using Windows 7 too but I also used Ubuntu for a while, that's why I agree! - culé, Dec 19, 2010

Everywhere. I believe it is the processor in the computer and not a software problem. This chip is quite old. A first run socket A sempron 2800 underclocked to 1900 because of various issues with it. I have used Linux boxes, and I like them, although I do prefer the simplicity of windows, though I hate Microsoft. (Example, can't use Netflix because MS Silverlight won't run on this machine). New chip $32 New board $50 Memory $30. (the new AMD sempron 140 can be unlocked to dual core so I hear) . Too many random errors that make no sense, like Solataire will crash when I'm not playing it. Or a bunch of random crashes, it only stays on for about 4 hours then you have to shut it off for an hour due to overheating too, the fan is working fine. So. Oh well. wink

I have absolutely no idea how to fix any of your computer problems, so all I can offer you are my best wishes for a Merry Christmas. If you were a good boy maybe Santa will help you out. Otherwise, I look forward to the time when these present problems are a thing of the past. I learn quite alot from the answers given to your interesting questions.

This pattern of totally random errors sounds to me like the hard drive is slowly failing. I would make sure to back up anything you don't want to lose, whatever decision you make going forwards. Good luck, Jeezzle.

Jeezle- since your computer is old and I know you type a lot, I believe that you have completely worn out your keyboard buffer.

Many of them have a 10,000,000 word limit. You've apparently hit the wall, my friend.

¡Qué lástima.

Can you type your posts on a word processor before you connect, then copy and paste afterward?

You know I had a similar problem once and it turned out that my computer was so full of dust and I was keeping my room so hot that it was causing strange problems (basically the cpu was overheating). Also, my computer had a dust filter that was absolutely packed with dust.

Answer: vacuum and blow out the dust that was in the computer (and coating the chip quite liberally), vacuum the dust filter, and reduce the temp in the room by a few degrees (this meant closing the vent to my room as the central heat was on and my room is always the hottest / coldest depending on whether the ac or heater is on).

In my case, the computer would shut itself off if I pulled up any programs. But it has an overheating safety thing built in to do that.

I was so puzzled for the longest time.
