How much time is needed to pop-up with a new language?

Do you have any idea? How much time Spanish, French, Italian and Portuguese needed to be born from Latin?

How much time is needed for a new language to pop-up? (although pop-up sounds a little strange, how about 'appear'?) also How much time was needed for Spanish, French etc..... to evolve from Latin? - Kiwi-Girl, Dec 18, 2010

You have to first define what Latin you are talking about, because Latin is not homogeneous. People talk about classical, modern and vulgar Latin, ranging for centuries, but they are only labels. The starting point of most modern Romance languages can't be accurately pinpointed, but they are generally located around the 10th -13th centuries A.D.

So, without these definitions, there is no clear answer.
