Need help translating a phrase

Hey,

I'm having big trouble translating the following phrase:

se está intentando también el alquiler de la antigua lonja de pescado el puerto pesquero para las instalaciones de depuración y hachery, o sistema de cultivo bajo condiciones controladas

Most of all I'm stuck near the word "el puerto", the grammar does not match up in my head :(

Also, I expect the verb "intentar" to be followed by another verb, not a noun.

Could anyone help me out, and provide even rough translation of this?

Thanks!

It looks like there's a typo in there - lonja de pescado el puerto pesquero = fish market the fishing port, which isn't right. Probably el puerto should be del puerto.

My guess is something like:

They are also trying to rent the old fish market at the fishing port for the installation of purification and hatchery equipment, or system of cultivation under controlled conditions.

Thank you so much, Kevin! Spot on! It's getting more clear now :) How would you comment on using a noun after the verb "intentar"? It seems that "intentar a alquilar" would sound more correct, i think. - vanyatka, Dec 16, 2010
También isn't a noun, it's a an adverb meaning 'also'. Intenter también a alquiler = also to be trying to rent - KevinB, Dec 16, 2010
Does "tambien" make much difference here, really? I know what it means, but I thought it's not important here. Can be injected almost anywhere without much change of meaning:) You saying "intentar tambien el alquiler" is Ok,but "intentar el alquiler" not? - vanyatka, Dec 16, 2010
Now I get the question. Alquiler means to rent, El alquiler is the verb being used as a noun - the renting. Intenter el alquiler is fine - to try renting. Intenter alquiler is not. You need another word between the two infinitives. - KevinB, Dec 16, 2010

Mmm maybe the grammar doesn't match up in your head because It seems to be wrong, I am a native speaker and that phrase at least has a bad punctuation because doesn't make any sense ** de pescado el puerto** together or without a comma, maybe It will help if you post the link from where you are reading it and we'll try to do our best inference.

Dakle, thanks for your reply! Yeah, it seems there is a typo in this sentence. I assume KevinB found it, and it became more clear now :) - vanyatka, Dec 16, 2010

what is meant by the word hachery? Is it the English word hatchery?

hatchery

  • hatchery n criadero de peces nm
  • hatchery n piscifactoría nf

fish hatchery n (place where fish are bred) piscifactoría nf

The fish hatchery had many pools where the fish matured.

vivero, criadero (de peces) nm

The machine translator can give you a rough translation if you substitute e.g. criadero for hachery. It doesn't seem to handle depuración too well.

depurar

  1. tr. Limpiar, purificar. U. t. c. prnl.

Thanks for asking ) This phrase is taken from a report about aqua-cultivation. The hatchery here means the place where the sea creatures are grown. However, it is the grammar that gives me most trouble here :( - vanyatka, Dec 16, 2010
