¡Hola!, Lasacre:

In speaking English, "Hot shot" is sometimes a slang substitute for another slang term "Hot stuff." They both can mean:

"a person who is considered, or considers themself to be. important, attractive or otherwise an above average 'cock of the walk' person."

The nearest equivalent Spanish term I could find (it is also in our dictionary, here ----> hacha) is 'ser un hacha' which I understand means 'to be a whiz, an ace or a genius'.

Perhaps wait to see what a member whose mother tongue is Spanish has to say about this. At first glance it appears it could be used in a colloquial or slang way, in Spanish, as an equivalent to the English 'hot shot'.

Heidita - "Hot shot" is used in all sports as well as in the street and everywhere else. It is a universal slang. I did read the question. - Moe, Dec 15, 2010

Hmmm, we often call it "mate" when the shot has been especially good.

Look here you have all possible shots.

I think tiro libre refers to free shot. Maybe you should think of a phrase like Good shot or perfect shot when a player makes a good shot in a basketball game.
