Here is what happens if you feed a quote to an online translator, and then feed the translated text back again.

This is an original Famous English quote that I ran back and forth through two online translators until I got the following text. The challenge is for you to find the original quote and its author.

Bonus points if you get the quote in the correct English and Spanish versions!

La ira es un ácido que puede hacer más daño a la embarcación en que se almacenan en la que nada ha sido Spiller.

Hint: The quote is from a very famous (not contemporary) author from the United States. The original is surprisingly close to the given text.

"Anger is an acid that can do more harm to the vessel in which it is stored than to anything on which it is poured." -Mark Twain

"La ira es un ácido que puede hacer más daño a la vasija en que se guarda que a cualquier cosa en que se vierte." -Mark Twain

Please correct my Spanish! I tried my best, but it could be completely off!

"que a cualquier " :) It's not so off, maplew! - cogumela, Dec 15, 2010
Woohoo! Thank you for the correction! - mapletw, Dec 15, 2010
Excellent, Maple! :-) - Gekkosan, Dec 15, 2010
Great job, Maple. I selected this answer because it was the first to provide a correct and properly attributed version both in English and Spanish. Special mention to Alba, who actually was the first one to povide the correct English version, and... - Gekkosan, Dec 15, 2010
...to Cogumela, for providing the most perfect versions. :-) - Gekkosan, Dec 15, 2010

OK, my second guess is Mark Twain.

Anger is an acid that can do more harm to the vessel in which it is stored than to anything on which it is poured.

It simply means if we hold on to anger, it does greater harm to us and what we do. The way to overcoming anger is first of all to understand anger and the nature of anger. - simpevets, Dec 14, 2010
That's more like it! :-). Now for the real, exact quote..? - Gekkosan, Dec 14, 2010
La ira es un ácido que puede hacer más daño a la nave en la que destaca que a nada en la que se vierte. - simpevets, Dec 14, 2010
@Simpevets: Sorry, that's not the correct quote. - Gekkosan, Dec 15, 2010

Anger is an acid that can do more harm to the vessel in which it is stored than to anything on which it is poured.

Mark Twain

My translation:

La ira es un ácido que puede hacer más daño al recipiente que lo contiene que a aquello sobre lo que se vierte.

(I couldn't resist the temptation to post here, although I think it was already solved by Maplewtv)

Mi admirado Mark Twain smile

That's it, Alba. I'm surprised you didn't go for the Spanish version, though. :-) - Gekkosan, Dec 15, 2010

This quote means "Anger is an acid that can do more harm to the vessel in which to store where nothing has been Spiller", but unfortunetly I couldn't find the author.

Uhm... I suppose Ghandi could be said to be many things, but a "famous US author" is not one of them. :-) - Gekkosan, Dec 14, 2010
