Game: Distorted Quote / Cita distorsionada

One of the questions I read today got me thinking about what happens if you feed a quote to an online translator, and then feed the translated text back again.

I must report that I am rather surprised, and a little disappointed (or the purpose of the game) to find out that actually the translators I tried are remarkably consistent. I had to feed a quote back and forth several times between two different translators to get a usable distortion. So the good news is, those tools are starting to get pretty usable. smile

In any event, here's the game: This is an original English quote that I found properly translated into Spanish. Then I ran it through two online translators until I got the following text. The challenge is for you to find the original quote and its author.

Bonus points if you get the quote in the correct English and Spanish versions!

El problema es que muchos confunden el amor con la gastritis y curar la enfermedad cuando se casaron.

Groucho Marx:

"Lo malo del amor es que muchos lo confunden con la gastritis y, cuando se han curado de la indisposición, se encuentran con que se han casado."

Eso es. ¿Y quién sabe el original en inglés? :-) - Gekkosan, Dec 14, 2010
The trouble with love is that many people confuse it with gastritis. After the ailment has been cured they find out they are married to a girl they wouldn't be caught dead with. (This is the version I can find) - Stadt, Dec 14, 2010

Lo siento Guillermo, ¡te ganó Stadt por dos minutos! Pero te ganas un voto de todos modos. :-) - Gekkosan, Dec 14, 2010

Oh, I think I found even a better one....and sounds like something you'd come up with, G.....

I feel a very unusual sensation - if it is not indigestion, I think it must be gratitude. ~Benjamin Disraeli

Nope, it's not quite that far removed. Very nice try, though. - Gekkosan, Dec 14, 2010
Is the quote an english proverb or a specific quote from a specific individual? I'm having trouble with this one.... - Seb79, Dec 14, 2010

Hint: The original quote is actually quite close to what I supplied. It's just that the meaning has been drastically distorted.

OK....random stabs in the dark, taking the words love and pain: Pleasure of love lasts but a moment, Pain of love lasts a lifetime. Not sure...... - Seb79, Dec 14, 2010
No, sorry. This is not it at all. - Gekkosan, Dec 14, 2010

How about, "The cure is worse than the disease." (I cannot find this attributed to any particular source.)

No, the quote is actually similar to what's written. Only the wording has been mangled and mistranslated. :-) - Gekkosan, Dec 14, 2010
