what is "Flor de Castilla"?

I am reading an early 16th narrative on Our Lady of Guadalupe, and there is a phrase in it: "flores de Castilla". Does this mean "exquisite flowers"?

literally, flowers from Castilla (a region in Spain),
but it is also a kind pastry dish.

It means roses. they were not a native plant species in the americas.
