Malakas doesn't mean homosexual. It means someone whose brain doesn't work normally. - gon4292, Aug 13, 2017

From Wikipedia:

The Phoenicians from Tyre founded the city here circa 770 BC. The name Malaka is probably derived from the Phoenician word for "salt" because fish was salted near the harbour. (Cf. "salt" in other Semitic languages, e.g. Hebrew ??? méla? or Arabic ??? mala?.

In my opinion, to relate Malah in Arabic or Hebrew to Malaga is far fetch. I do not know the origin; howver, in Arabic Malaga or Malaka translates to "spoon". - jeb007, Sep 7, 2016

Im not sure about the origin of the actual name, but it could have something to do with the God of the "fenicios" that was Melqart mlk-q (king + city).

The origin of the name of the city is dated back to the antiquity when the "fenicios" colonized the area. They founded the city "Malaka".
