---updated with photos---Diving in Riviera Maya, Mexico
As some of you have noticed, I am safely back from my wonderful trip to Mexico, where I have dived in incredible places, met great people, and, last but not least...I have learnt Spanish
jeje, yes, I had to relearn Spanish, my friends, but I will open a new thread on that topic![]()
We were on our flight to Cancun on Friday afternoon when the strike of the airport controllers was announced
We had no idea on the plane, we were told, some kind of delay due to whatever reason was taking place...so we were mad but we did not even know about our luck until we actually got to Mexico ..as our flight was the last to leave Madrid!
![]()
So, we were lucky despite the delay. We arrived at Mexico at around 10 PM, welcomed by Mariachis, jeje, and we were taken to our Hotel. I stayed in the Yucatan Hotel, which was simply marvellous
Directly on that incredible beach, white sand one can find in Spain, but only in Fuerteventura.

So we were taken to the room and we found what we were to find every day, a towel arrangement on a king size bed, great! jeje, there were even competitions about these arrangements and I must admit, even though rather kitch, they were also cute and we felt welcome![]()
So, we sort of dropped dead into our beds and at ten to eight next morning, we were picked up for our first incredible two dives.

Day one:
You want to dive in Riviera Maya? You simply H A V E to dive with Pepe Esteban y Vicente.![]()
Tall guy on the right Vicente, Spanish, grey t-shirt guy, Vicente, originally Mexican, but has lived in Spain.

I would call it a "controlled chaos" which took place every morning, typical Spanish dives, mind you
.everybody looking what to do, who to dive with, what to wear, are we doing Cenotes? Are we doing mar? Are we doing toros?
I mean, I was stunned these guys were going to show us a bull fight!
I really and truly understood just that and thought, hey, I don't want to go there!!! ![]()
You want to have fun, real fun, visit the weirdest places nobody goes to, buy a package of "normal" dives and even get to see sharks: go dive with Pepe y Vicente
![]()
Anyway, do have a look on the web, there is nothing I can tell you here you can't read about Pepe and Vicente all over the web
(you only have to write in google pepe y vicente...and they are right first page!! jeje)
Ok, so Pepe took us directly to see: Tiburón Toro, o m g ....a body builder as big as the sharks, trust me, didn't dare to dive, jeje, he stayed in the boat as soon as he saw the sharks in the depth.
This is what I saw:

There were 8 of them, surrounding the group of 6 divers....they are brownish in the water, swimming around us, going round and round...and you think....hmmmm, are they coming nearer or am I imagining things? ![]()
WEll, well, as you can imagine, we were shocked and happy at the same time, such a thrill! You don't always see bull sharks so I was really lucky.
Then we went to our second dive to a riff, I must try to find out which one, so I will go into detail I do remember seeing this fish everywhere:
Day two:
We had to get up at half past six.
At ten to seven we were picked up to go to...Cozumel!!!
We took the ferry at around 8, Mexicans are like Spaniards...not the most punctuality freaks in the world, lovely, jeje, one felt right at home![]()
So this is the ferry, it costs 15.

We had to take all our gear, that was heavy stuff
So we arrived around one hour later and a boat was waiting for us.
Our guide was Adriano, Mexican, and everybody was in love with him. ![]()
So we took off to see the wonderful riffs of Cozumel:

The beauty is unbelievable and we saw this guy there![]()

We were diving through a cave like arch and there he was
It was so near that you could see its branchio clearly open and close.
I hope I will be able to add some photos here, the photographer was with us that day![]()
Day three:
We were picked up at the same time and left for the Cenote Chac Mool. Gary had shown me some videos and I was rather anxious...I thought I might get scared, but after diving with the bulls, I mean, who can be scared of a cave? ![]()
So we saw this:
This is the outside:

And this the inside:

How I envy you! What a lucky lady.
This is our back garden
I sure could do with some sunshine. Glad you had a good time ![]()
Glad you are back, Heidi. It sounds like you had a great adventure. That is a trip of a life time. It is exam time here. In a week or so I can get my head out of the books for a while. This is me lately....
Well Heidi I am glad you had such a great time "diving" ? But it looks like I will have slipped down the numbers somewhat , say novio ocho ??

Glad you are back safe and sound Heidita. I can't wait for more photos.

We missed you so much !
I'm glad you had a great time
with the sharks!
I'm looking forward to seeing day two![]()
Heidita,
By the sounds of things you made it to Mexico just "by the skin of your teeth" ![]()
What an amazing shark picture - so many hangers-on! I'm hoping to go to Mexico next year "some time" and I will probably start off in Cancun - so now, after reading your post, I r-e-a-l-l-y have "itchy feet".
Welcome back amiga ![]()
This looks incredible, I'm glad you had a great time! Thanks for sharing
and I'm very glad you're back.
Day four:
Today we took the sea again![]()
We had incredible dives in two riffs, loooots of life and fish and green morays, I had not seen green ones, and not so biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig!!
I also saw this turtle:
So glad you made it back safe and sound
I am the diver on the right![]()
