Put in a pin

Orthopedically speaking: If the doctor say to the patient,

We are going to have to put a pin in your hip during surgery.

Tenemos que insertarle un clave a su cadera durante la operacion.

I've looked up pin (orthopedics) can't find exact translation.

I`ve searched and seen clavijo and also found this: perno (de acero quirúrgico o de titanio)", o simplemente "perno".
