Verb Tenses
How do I know when to use preterite vs. imperfect? Future vs. conditional?

That's a loaded question..Much too long of an answer for this forum.
The preterite is a tense of completed process in the past. A completed process is a process which has a beginning, some duration, and an end. Also known as events.
Imperfect: an incomplete process...To describe when a process started, when it ended, or how many times it took place. It expresses a habitual process. Translated in English as "use to"
Use future when expressing a possibility or probability. In English the words "maybe" or "probably" You can also use it when expressing a command..
The conditional is expressed "con tu ayuda, yo lo conseguria" "with your help, I would succeed"
..and much more
Just keep it up every day my friend...Good luck
