The Public Defence Solicitor's Office

The Public Defence Solicitor's Office

The Public Defence Solicitor's Office handles criminal cases in Scotland from the defendant's side. (The Public Prosecutor's Office - Fiscalía - work from the prosecution's side).

.

From their own code of conduct, their function is:

.

  1. The purpose of the Public Defence Solicitors' Office is to provide proper, appropriate, timely and independent advice and representation to persons subject to criminal investigations or criminal proceedings.

I am unaware of an equivalent body in Latin America or Spain and so have translated it as:

.

Oficio de Defensores Públicos

.

Does anyone have any better suggestions? Does an equivalent body exist? I would really appreciate any comments you have.

Thanks again! smile

In the U.S. we use both ""Oficina de Defensores de Oficio" and "Oficina de Defensores Público."
