Can someone explain what exactly an "absolute" superlative is? I think I understand superlatives as in "La mas bonita" (the prettiest/most pretty) but what is an absolute superlative?

Whoops! I should try research. Someone asked a similar question and I found a link that explained it pretty well. - Amnita, Dec 7, 2010

A relative superlative points towards the highest of a group or set:

The best of the group = El mejor del grupo.

An absolute superlative is the highest of a scale in absolute terms:

The most beautiful = El/la más guapo/a
