To say "America is an entire continent" is not correct. It may be said that North America and South America are continents. Collectively they are often referred to as The AmericaS. However, the name America, without a North or South adjective is not a reference to a continent.

I am Canadian. I do not wish for Americans to think that Canada which is a huge part of North America is any part of an 'American' continent. Im guessing that Mexicans do not want to be included in an 'American' continent. The ramifications are simply too incorrect.

I am not aware of any continent properly referred to as America.

In Spanish, América (with an accent) IS a continent. The terminology is quite different in English, where the people in USA took the name "America" for themselves. - lazarus1907, Dec 6, 2010
Mexico is considered part of Central America, but they are connected by landmass making them part of the continent of North America. Another note, being offended by being referred to as an American is incredibly ignorant and disrespectful. - LiveUnsheathed, Dec 6, 2010

It has a few minor mistakes, but overall is quite decent, it has interactive maps and a list of cities and countries that will most likely exceed your geographical knowledge in any language:

Estimado Moe:

Saludos.

Dear Moe:

I think you should know some things before express an opinion in the way you did. Apparently you do not know, but the number of continents is not a world law. Different models postulate different numbers of continents. In the model shown in the USA (and apparently also in Canada) South and North America are separate continents. In Latin America, from where I am from, both are part of only one continent: America. If you notice the word: "South America": the southern part of America and "North America": the northern part of America it makes sense to be understood as two parts of the same whole. If you're going to offer a response in such a hard way, my advice is for you to inform better before.

Anyway, my comment was referring to the misuse of the word "America" to refer to a country, USA.

Greetings.

TaniaSalazar - I accept your fair criticism and reply. I found an Wikipedia page that helped me to understand the 6 continent approach as compared to my long held 7 continent belief. - Moe, Dec 5, 2010
Se the Wikipedia pages here ---- in English ----> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continent - Moe, Dec 5, 2010
and here ----In Spanish ----> http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continente - Moe, Dec 5, 2010
Since you are committed to the 6 continent concept, I accept your original statement that "America" is one continent from your perspective. - Moe, Dec 5, 2010
It makes sense, really. As small as it is, there is a piece of land which connects North and South America. It would still constitute a continuous land mass, and by definition be a continent. - LiveUnsheathed, Dec 6, 2010

Am I the only one wondering why Imuhaju didn't use the dictionary to find out the answers herself...? It's a learning process, so you need to do the donkey work and don't expect it all on a plate. Perhaps I am being old-fashioned.

But you have to admit, learning a language is a slog and one should first try to find things out for oneself rather than just demand a list. - Pibosan, Dec 6, 2010
