I overheard on of my Spanish speaking friends use the phrase mono de raza and i can't find out what it means. It might be slang but from the way he was using it it didn't seem to be offensive. Can anyone tell me what this phrase means and how it is used?

In Spanish, when you say that an animal is ´de raza´, you mean it has good breed.

good breed horse

good breed dog

good breed monkey (very unusual)

I think well-bred conveys that idea.

The phrase is used in a number of reggaeton songs. Well bred money fits its use to describe a politician. - lorenzo9, Dec 6, 2010

Were they discussing music videos?

After reading some lyrics on some reggaeton pages, I fell much better about my Spanish :) - lorenzo9, Dec 5, 2010

He might have been discussing a music video but I'm not sure. I also cam across that song but I still couldn't tell the meaning.

I've never heard this expression, but in Mexico when you call someone "Mono(a)" it means "Cute," "Adorable," etc, so this expression may mean "A cute person of a particular race."
