The word falcon has been borrowed from Latin, and Spanish is modern Latin, so the answer should not be a surprise if we consider that many Latin words starting with F became H in modern Spanish.

I can't follow that. Why do many Latin words starting with F become H in modern Spanish? - 0074b507, Dec 5, 2010
I'm not arguing that they don't, just trying to understand the reason why they do. - 0074b507, Dec 5, 2010
