Do the headphones have to be that big, ray? - Brynleigh, Dec 5, 2010
They are sound supressors also. - ray76, Dec 5, 2010
Usted-tú are mixed here....
You can't use imperative in the middle of a sentence, it has to be the first word: 'Asegúrate de comprar..'. If you word it as a suggestion, after 'Te recomiendo que..', you need subjuntive 'que te asegures de'. Also: 'chat del sábado' - bill1111, Dec 5, 2010
The mine are smaller . :) Hi ray ! - cogumela, Dec 5, 2010
Good suggestion!! - 001a2987, Dec 5, 2010
Thank you guys , sorry I was late getting back , I have been out late. - ray76, Dec 5, 2010
Perhaps Ray did not choose the picture for the size of the headphones... - Echoline, Dec 5, 2010

During a blizzard, the advice is to stay off the roads.

Edit: Is in bold.

The verb is 'aconsejar', but the noun is 'consejo', and you can use both here. Either 'el consejo es ..' or 'se aconseja mantenerse..', which sounds much better. - bill1111, Dec 5, 2010
Omg..this reminds me that snow is coming soon! Brrrrrrrrrrrrr! - --Mariana--, Dec 5, 2010
Thank you Bill, especially for showing the noun and verb. And Marianne hope you stocked up on the hot cocoa! - bandit51jd, Dec 5, 2010
it is advisable... - Echoline, Dec 5, 2010

In the old days they provided shields to warriors.. but in a marriage.. :) - sv2qp, Dec 5, 2010
No mistakes here! ;) - cogumela, Dec 5, 2010
Making me laugh, guys! I would say 'To go to war or to marry is inadvisable' or 'It's inadvisable to go to war or to marry'. - galsally, Dec 5, 2010
or.......'One should not be advised to go to war or to marry.' Many ways to skin a cat, eh? :) - galsally, Dec 5, 2010
Coming from you Sally, it's a natural skin.. jeje :) - sv2qp, Dec 5, 2010

Whenever I don't do what my mother advises me, I find myself in a complex situation. Mothers always know! smile

I think that ".....find myself in a complex/difficult situation" would sound better here. - --Mariana--, Dec 5, 2010
lío=jam, mess - 0074b507, Dec 5, 2010
thanks :) - culé, Dec 5, 2010
Also, better than 'Las madres siempre saben', which is ok, I'd say the more idiomatic 'Siempre tienen razón' (they are always right) - bill1111, Dec 5, 2010

'A veces la gente no escucha un buen consejo' (subjuntive isn't good here, 'personas' is ok but 'gente' is better, and that 'a' before 'buenos consejos' isn't correct when the object isn't a person) - bill1111, Dec 5, 2010
Como siempre, gracias Billstpor!! - 001a2987, Dec 5, 2010

The patient says, Doctor, it hurts when I do this…what do you advise? The doctor replies “don't do that"!

(Full disclosure: joke from Henny Yougman, with a few changes.)

A few comments. First, even though 'médico' and 'doctor' are synonyms, when you address a doctor in Spanish you also call him or her 'doctor' or 'doctora'. Second, you mixed tú/usted (aconseja, hagas..) - bill1111, Dec 5, 2010
.. and finally, when one asks '¿Qué me aconsejas?' (where instead of 'aconsejar' it could be any other communication verb, like 'comentar', 'decir', etc..) the reply starts with 'que', ie: 'Que no lo hagas', where it is implied 'Te aconsejo que..' - bill1111, Dec 5, 2010
Thanks Billstpor. It should be correct now, if not let me know. (I see where I mixed the formal and informal) - Rolest, Dec 5, 2010
Almost correct.. you shouldn't use in the final part 'lo' and 'eso'.. it's one or the other, not both. - bill1111, Dec 5, 2010
Thanks again Billstpor. I decided to stay with 'eso' because, being an American, it seems more natural to me. - Rolest, Dec 5, 2010

Apocalipsis 3:18 (Idon't know what Bible version this is)

So here's my advice. Buy from me gold made pure by fire. Then you will become rich. Buy from me white clothes to wear. Then you will be able to cover your shameful nakedness. And buy from me healing lotion to put on your eyes. Then you will be able to see. Revelation 3:18 (NIV)
