Primer or Primero?

When is it proper to use 'primer' verses 'primero'. For instance when saying, "this was my first car." Or a certain month is "the first month of the season."

Primer is used before singular masculine nouns, while primero is the generic word for first. Primera is the feminine version.

Este fue mi primer coche - This was my first car.
Es el primer mes de la temporada - It is the first month of the season.
Él llegó primero - He arrived first.
Ella llegó primera - She arrived first.
Es la primera flor que he visto esta primavera - It's the first flower I've seen this spring.

In that case, primero precedes the preposition de and not a singular masculine noun. - lorenzo9, Dec 28, 2011

I wonder why the word primer does not exist as Spanish word in the dictionary of our forum. It exists as an English word only.
