Hola: Estoy traduciendo un documento que dice "trade-in event". As in Trade-in your old furniture...Estoy pensando algo como "evento de intercambio/canje", pero en verdad no estoy segura. Ayuda por favor.

Thanks.

Como prenda de pago is used when you give something as a compromise that you are going to pay in the future the whole debt, actually I am not sure if that is the meaning of in trade of,

Mmm "canje" doesn't work in this case because It is more like "to interchange", like when people change tickets for merchandise.

No suggestions for how to say it in 3 words or less? :-) - 0074b507, Dec 4, 2010

Hola:

Gfreed, gracias por tu ayuda. Entonces, ¿"canje" no te suena? Lo que pasa es que es para un anuncio y tiene que ser breve y al punto. No sé si el formato me permita poner una oración. Si la gente dona sus muebles viejos a Goodwill recibirán un crédito para una rebaja en el almacén...

I like the idea, however. I live about 1000 feet from a Goodwill store and much to my consternation they don't accept used furniture donations. - - 0074b507, Dec 4, 2010
I don't even know how you fit "acontecimiento" on a sign. - 0074b507, Dec 4, 2010

What do we normally see trade-in's made on? Cars. I tried finding out how car trade-in's are worded. Here is how Trading in your used car was worded:

entregar su auto usado como parte del pago inicial

I don't think that Spanish has a simple word or two for a Trade-in or to trade in.

Phrasal Verbs

trade in v + o + adv, v + adv + o? ‹car/refrigerator› entregar(conj.?) como parte del pago

trade on v + prep + o? ‹beauty/disability› explotar, capitalizar(conj.?) trade: trade-in~-in sustantivo

  • (article): they took my old car as a ~-in aceptaron mi coche usado como parte del pago

  • (transaction) transacción por la cual se da un artículo usado como parte del pago, venpermuta f? (Col?);

You may have to use a phrase rather than a single adjective.

Se aceptan artículos usados como parte del pago.
