Margaret, I think it is very nice of you to fix the question for Pretty. However, perhaps it would be more helfpul in terms of her learning if you could explain what you changed and why, don't you think? Just a suggestion. - Gekkosan, Dec 3, 2010

Hiya Pretty, welcome to the Forum. What say we start by working on your English spelling first, hm?

I expect you are trying to say something like:

"What is the word for 'female' in Spanish, and how do you spell it", Right?

In that case, all you have to do is write "female" in the "translate" box at the top of the page, and you will get what you need.

It's funny, I know you are trying to sound nice but you sound so sarcastic at the same time. Maybe it is intended that way :) hm? - dewclaw, Dec 3, 2010
Maybe it is. Luckily for the world at large, there are nicer people than me on the Forum. :-) - Gekkosan, Dec 3, 2010
"English phrasing", unless that, too was a comment on her use of "spelling" - samdie, Dec 3, 2010
jaja come on , should i have to criticize the last comment? - Dakie, Dec 3, 2010
It was a comment on her spelling. - Gekkosan, Dec 3, 2010

If you double click on the word "female", the Spanish translation will appear. You can just click on "Dictionary" at the top of the page and type in the Spanish word and you will see many ways to use the word. Have fun!

Interesting side note, out of the two bongo drums, the smaller drum is called "el macho" and the larger one is called "la hembra."

Is that it? Are you going to leave us hanging? grin Why is the larger, lower toned drum called a "hembra" while the smaller, higher toned drum called a "macho" contrary to what one would assume (male people being larger, and singing in a lower pitch than a female.)

In mechanical or electrical couplings the end that has any type of protrusion is the male end and the end with any kind of recession is the female end. That follows the human analogy. Why are the drum names a contradiction?

It's interesting if you wish to know the the nuances of music and culture. - benweck, Dec 4, 2010
Which I don't know. That is why I am seeking an explanation. - 0074b507, Dec 4, 2010
I'm not really sure, but I assumed it had something to do with the image of a bossy wife in a funny sort of way. - benweck, Dec 4, 2010
To me, it's interesting because it's not immediately obvious and shows depth. - benweck, Dec 4, 2010

People are putting mujer but that is the word for woman (or wife in some contexts). Hembra is the word for female and the word for male is macho.

Interesting side note, out of the two bongo drums, the smaller drum is called "el macho" and the larger one is called "la hembra."
