Hi,

Where did you hear this phrase? It is not one that I have heard before.

"Spent" is a verb and means used (utilzar).

"Peel" can be a noun (cáscara) that describes a layer of matter that is removable

or a verb (descortezar) that is used to describe the process of removing.

Does this help?

RC

P.S. Since I am a begining Spanish learner, I have pasted the English to Spanish translation for my response taken from Google translate: ¡Hola! ¿Dónde has oído esta frase? No es que yo haya escuchado antes. "Gastado" es un verbo y los medios utilizados (utilzar). "Pele" puede ser un sustantivo (cáscara) que describe una capa de materia que se puede quitar o un verbo (descortezar) que se utiliza para describir el proceso de eliminación. ¿Ayuda esto?

Or is it the residual sound one hears after a bell , or bells have been rung or peeled , therefore a spent "peel". Or when a group of soldiers are marching and one is tired

and "peels off " from the group , a spent peel.

A discarded peel leftover after you have peeled a piece of fruit like a banana, for example. It could have figurative as well as literal meanings.

Just saw Q's answer. It is not a phrase that is used in the U.S. We just call it a peel here. I suppose the "spent" part is understood, as no one talks about the peel when it is still on the fruit...
