like in english when you say so what are you doing tonight

The word "so" can be used in more than 30 different ways! It has more uses than a Swiss knife. What are the chances that another language will have a similar word that can be used for exactly the same several dozens of conventionally assigned uses?

Specific words like "nail-cutter" can be easily translated, but common words with a wide range of meanings and idioms can't, at least not with a single word. Not even two languages that are really close, and Spanish and English are not particularly close.

¿asi asi? No es "so-so"? For "So, what are you doing tonight?" would ¿y que? serve for So? Okay, then how about "even so" meaning something like irrespective? "aun así" ? Is "sólo asi" something like "just so" ? (just so you all know I don't know much spanish!)

I don't think you would use the Spanish equivalent for "so" in this way, in English we use it for so many things. As a filler-word, I would use "Pues, ¿qué haces esta noche?". That´s the best I can think of at the moment...
