Talking Latino strangers

We have a lot of Latinos where I work..They do not speak much English. What would be the best approach to them so I can learn more Spanish without acting like a stalker?

As an ice breaker, I'd say:
"Hola. Estudio español, pero no hablo mucho todavía."
(Hi, I study Spanish, but I don't speak much yet.)
